Education Board.
The following from the Herald’s report of the Education Board meeting on Thursday will be of interest A departmental memorandum in reply to an enquiry stated that the number of managers to be elected for the Technical Classes Association at Waimate were :—By the Association four, local authorities three, Board of Education two. Dr Barclay was appointed as the second representative of the Board. The architect reported that he was awaiting further information before deciding about the well at Hunters , that the Waihao Downs school would be finished in a few days, and the addition to the residence in Waimate was approaching completion. He recommended the acceptance of the tender of Mr McLeish at £9 16s for gates at Waikakahi. He had not yet seen to the leaks atOtaio. (Mr Barclay said he had examined them, and found them very trifling, but wanted seeing to; the cost would be about 10s.) Mr Barclay reported for the Building Committee on applications referred to them, recommending . —That Waihaorunga be granted £ for £ up to a total of £lO for shingle and cutting drain, subject to the architect’s approval. Repainting in Kapua —Architect to look up the painting fund and report. Re Waimate requests (Mr Barclay made a report on these to the Gom r mittee). —One fireplace to bo refitted, cost not to exceed 30s; the others deferred. Mr Barclay suggested ihat £ for £ be granted up to £SO to enable the Committee to do all that was necessary, to save them from coming constantly to the Board for small items. Mr McCaskill considered that this would not be fair to other committees, and Mr Maslin agreed with him that as other committees get up concerts in aid cf their funds, Waimate should do the same. Mr Jackson moved in the direction of Mr Barclay’s suggestion, but the motion was lost.
