THE WAIMATE ADVERTISER. SATURDAY, JULY 5, 1902. POSTAL BOXES.

A correspondent in this issue, in referring to the increased number of houses visited by the lettercarrier, draws attention to a need which has been pointed out by us on several occasions tbat of postal boxes at or near the boundaries of the postman's round. In a scattered place like Waimate it is evident that the fact of there being only one place at which letters may be posted must be often a great inconvenience ; to those outside the borough it means a walk of a mile to post a letter, and it may not be convenient to spare the time. If boxes were placed at Hutt's corner, the Mill Road, near Mr E.G. Baxter's, and Lower High etreet it would be a boon to the residents in those districts and would place the people of the Borough more on a level as regards the despatch of their correspondence. The cost of the boxes cannot be very graat and they could easily be cleared by the letter-carrier as he made his rounds. We would urge the immediate attention of the Postal Department to this matter. Places like Temuka and Geraldine, where the necessity is no greater, have had the boxes for years and it seems time tbat the needs of Waimate shonld receive consideration.
