Return of Troopers.
A very large crowd attended at Waimate Railway Station on Saturday to see Troopers Scott, Boone, McEvoy and J. Hardie, all of the Seventh Contingent, return home. The Studholrae Mounted Rifles, of whom Trooper Scott was a member, were in attendance and they carried the troopers shoulder-high to a drag that was in waiting, the crowd cheering enthusiastically. Mr Manchester, Mayor of Wcimate, was present, but there was no opportunity for a formal welcome, the crowd being eager to greet and shake hands with men who had made a name for themselves throughout the Empire by their stand at Bothasberg. The men were then driven to the town.
The returned troopers are looking well. They speak in high terras of Trooper Alfred Whitney, who was killed at Bothasberg. He never once showed the white feather through numerous narrow escapes, and in his going hence he left Waimate nothing to be ashamed of in the mention of her only dead.
