Capture of the Kenniffs.
Brisbane, June 23
The Kenniffs stole a bag of wheat from a selector near Mitchell, A party of four police and two trackers traced them to the scrub at Booties, and surprised the ramp before sunrise. They shot two out of the four of the Kenniffs horses. Pat, who was unarmed, and Jimmy, who had two loaded rifles, bolted. On the police firing Prt fell, but was not hit. He was captured. Jimmy escaped to the scrub. On the police returning with their prisoner Jimmy was again seen. The police, keeping up a running fire, ran him to bay, and ordered him to surrender. He agreed to do so if Pat was not shot, adding “ I am tired of this life.” He was assured that Pat was all righti Jimmy then quietly gave himself up. The rifles were surrendered, and it was found that the camp was well stocked with ammunition and food.
