Waimate Rifles’ Social.

On Thursday evening last the above social was held in the Oddfellows’ ; Hall, about 50 couples taking part in the Grand March, which was led by Capt. Barclay and Mrs Coltman, Mr P. Wilce acted as M.C., and kept things going. Miss Gaitt and Mr W. Myers supplied excellent music. The function was a great success and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. During the evening Capt. Barclay made a number of presentations, at the same time thanking those present for their attendance, and said he only had to look round at the smiling faces to see ghafc they were enjoying themselves. The following is the list:— Capt. Barclay’s trophy, sillver chain, Private Butcher; Mr Ruddenklau’s, silver teapot, Sergfc. Smith ; Mr Sinclair’s, silver teapot, Oorpl. R. Wilson; Lieut. Hurst’s, pair field glass, Private Ku-ckaldy; Lieut. Jackson’s, silver chain, Private Dash ; Mr Dean’s cup, Private Butcher; Capt, Barclay’s trophy, pair field glasses, Private Dash; McLean cup, Corpl. 0. Wilson j champion medal, Private Bennington; Sergt. Stevenson’s medal, Copl. Porter. At a meeting of the shooting committee a vote of thanks was passed to those who provided prizes.
