Coronation Celebrations.
London, June 9.
Fourteen hundred troops, representing the army in South Africa, who are on board the transport Bavaria, are expected to arrive in London on the 25th inst., in time to take part in the Coronation festivities, if the steamer makes ■ a fast passage. 4 The Lord Mayor of London presided at a great meeting at the Mansion House to arrange for a Coronation gift to His'Majesty the King, who desired to give it to the hospitals. It was resolved to open a national fund, and £55,000 was subscribed at the meeting. Captain Macdonald, Lieutenants Blair, Hardham, and Wilson, and 51 New Zealand mounteds ; also, Captain Taranaki, Lieutenant Urn and 31 Maoris, are passengers by the Kinfauns Castle from Capetown to England. A meeting of the clergy and members of the Protestant churches in Temuka was held on Monday afternoon, to discuss the advisableness of holding a united service on Coronation Day. Representatives of the various denominations were as follows Anglican, the Rev. J. M. Adcock, 8.A., and Mr W. G. Aspinall ; Presbyterian, the Rev. E. J. Steele, M. A., and Mr McOully ; Methodist, the Rev. J. Blight and Mr T. Buxton; Salvation Army, Captain O’Neill and Lieutenant Rathbone. The delegates from the Primitive Methodist Church were unable to be present. It was resolved to hold a united service at II a.m. id 'the Volunteer Hall, and the : clergymen of each church and the officers of the Salvation Army are i to take part in it. An appropriate ■ service was drawn up* and it was I resolved that the Rev. J. M. Adcock deliver the address.
