Peace Celebrations.
Wellington, May 2i, Arrangements are being made by the Government, in case of the receipt of the news of peace, for the immediate ringing of bells on Government buildings, the firing of guns at the . forts, and like demonstrations.
The Mayor of Timaru interviewed by a representative of the Post said, “As soon as the welcome news is recorded I want as much joyousness as possible. All the bells should be set ringing, whistles blown, the people will be asked to close their shops and offices, and the school children to bo given a holiday, the volunteers and bands to turn out and an impromptu procession formed, similar to that when the news of the relief of Mafekjng was received, with, if possible, still greater spirit and enthusiasm. If there is time of course a definite programme will he drawn up, and this will be posted in prominent places about the town.
