The MarUt Brothers' School team visited Waima'e on SatunD.y and played the Waimate District High School, and an interes'ing, if almhily ono-sid-d, came resulted in a win for Wat mate by sixtries (18 points) to a pena’ty goal (3 points). The Idfcal team had the advantage in weight, added to which their forwards played a fine dashing and in con-equcneo the visitor’s smart backs had no chance of showing what they could da on the attack. In Humphries, R Hayes and Dyer the winners have a t’*io of lino foiwards, who p'ay well together. Humphries scored lliveo times, twice off parses from Dyer ; and Hayes also crossed the line. Gunn, at threequarters played a fine game, being a strong dodgy runner, and scored a try after running from the centre of the ground through all the opposing backs. McKenzie, at five-eighth, a[so played cleverly, and was succes ful in getting over the line. Frost, Wilson and Nicol were the most prominent of the others, and with experience wII make good players. For the visitors, Rooney, O’Dowd. Shea, and Gillespie (2) stood up well against the superior odds. Mr W. Thomas was referee and carried out his duties very well. _ The visitors were entertained at lunch in the school by the local boys, assisted by the senior girls and teachers.
The Waimate seniora journey to Temuka on Tuesday next, and in order to get a good practice and give the selection committee something to go on in picking the team, a strong fifteen has bnen got together to play the “ probables ” next Thursday. The game will start at 3.45 p.m. to enable country players to get in. A really good muster is expected.
