Acclimatisation Society

Tho annual general meeting of the Waimate branch of tho Acclimatisation Society was held last evening; present—Mr Adams (president, in the chair), and Messrs Cheverton, R. Smith, J. Smith, D. Kennard, J. Hall, B. Flynn, and J. Sinclair (secretary). The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed, and the outward and inward correspondence read and received.

Accounts amounting to £2l 2s were passed for payment. The balance-sheet and report were read and adopted. The annual report congratulated members on tho successful year, the balance being £9O 2s fid. Owing to floods, the Waitaki was not in good order last year, but some fair baskets were obtained. The Waihao was good for fly fishing. The shooting season opened on May Ist, and there was plenty of sport. Rainbow and Loch Loven trout were reared last season, and the rainbow proved the best fish. They were all liberated in the Waihao in splendid condition with somo rainbow trout from the first season weighing BHbs. There are now 4000 fine rainbow trout in the ponds to be liberated before next season. Haros and wallabies were plentiful. Shags are numerous, and the Society spent £ll 7s fid trying -to get rid of them. The united Society has decided to procure more new waterfowl from Australia to liberate at Lake Ohau. Mr Adams was re-elected President, Mr Cheverton and Mr R. Y. Smith were elected Vice-presidents. Mr Sinclair waa re-elected Secretary and Treasurer.

A letter was received from the Tourist and Health Resorts Department asking the Society to help to procure game such as moose, wapati, ducks and wild geese. It was resolved that the Society vote £25 to the fund in helping to procure same. It was resolved that the Society get the run ready for pheasants at Knottingly Park. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the Waitaki Society for the gift of the pheasants. It was also resolved that a letter of condolence be sent to Mrs T. Smith, of tho Hook, on the loss of her husband, who waa an enthusiastic member of the Society. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Mr R, V. Cochrane for auditing the books.
