Troopers’ Welcome Home Social.

The social given by the Zealandia Dancing Class took plase last Thursday evening. The Sixth Contingent troopers were all present. The hall was tastefully decorated by Messrs J. Moore and J. A. Anderson with cut pipers, flags, etc., and did great credit to their tastes. The Grand March was led by Sergt. Cunningham and Miss T. Ferguson, and an excellent dance followed. Songs were given by Miss Hunt and Messrs McDonald, Blake, Fulton and Campbell. Mr G. Rogers gave a hornpipe in costume. Pipers Cooper and J. Smith played several bagpipe selections, which were well received.

Mr F. Wilce, M.C., on behalf of the Zoalandia Dancing Class, thanked the ladies and gentlemen for their kind attendance in welcoming home the returned troopers, and said that the committee would arrange a social for all returning troopers as they arrived. Sergeant Cunningham, on behalf of the troopers, made the following short speecli:— Ladies and Gentlemen,—We did not think when we arrived here on Saturday afternoon that we would be entertained in this manner. We thought we would be put aside and we thank the Zoalandia Dancing Class Committee for the way we have been welcomed here this evening. We have been very agreeably surprised.” Three cheers,.were given for the troopers, and the social went in full swing till 3 a.m. Messrs W. Drayton and F, Wilce were capable M's.C., and Miss Gaitt (piano) and W. Meyers (violin) provided excellent music.
