Land for Settlement, Waihao Downs.
We understand that the Canterbury Laud Purchase Board have been offered and approached with a view to purchasing the outlying parts and the Waihao Downs Estate. The Gomnissionors visited the Downs on Thursday, leaving Waimate by yesterday's express. The price fixed by the owner, Mr John Douglas, is reported to be a very moderate one, and likely to cause no difficulty. It has never before been quoted at the price. The kernel of the estate has not yet been broken in the division of this being intersected by roads and railway and consisting of highclass land, offers exceptional value for its purchase for close settlement. Vo hoar since that fho estate has boon accepted ot.ElO 11s per acre.—
