Football.
The first match of the season between the Waimate High School and the Temuka High School took place on Saturday in Timaru. Though the former left with rather a weak team they were successful and won by six points to nil. Humphries, who played like a “ Trojan ” throughout the game, scored a try after a splendid dribbling rush. In the second spell Hayes scored a try, the kick at goal again being a failure. The game was, for the most part, a forward one. For Waimate Humphries, Wilson and Gunn played well, as did Miles, Hart and Dalgleish for Temuka. Mr Hassall gave every satisfaction with the whistle.
