The Hun W. J. Steward and Mrs Steward arrived in town yesterday afternoon.
Much regret was felt in Waimate on receipt ot the news that Trooper L. N. Thomas, who left Waimate with the Eighth Contingent, was one of those injured by the railway accident in South Africa.
Trooper J. Goldstone, lately of the Second New Zealand Contingent and selected for the Coronatmn Contingent, left Waimate by Tuesday’s express. A good number of his friends were at the station to see him off and wish him boil voyage. Messrs Manchester Bros, yesterday presented Mr D. A. TAylor, who has been in their employ for fifteen years, with a gold watch and chain as a token of the esteem in which he was held.
