Tenth Contingent.
The Premier states that Napier, Gisborne, Lyttelton, Oamaru, Nelson, Invercargill, Timaru and Dunedin are all clamouring for the honour of sending off the Tenth. At New Plymouth a deputation waited on him asking that that town should be chosen for the camp of the North Island Battalion. The Premier said he would consult General Babington before deciding the question. The mayor of Timaru, received the following telegram from the Hon. W. Hall-Jones ; —“ In reply to telegram re sending battalion Tenth Contingent from Timaru : For the reason stated in my telegram re Ninth Contingent the Tenth will be mobilised at two of the' four centres, where all the
necessary conveniences already exist. Quick despatch in now important.” The Premier has received the followiu ' cable me-sago from Lord Kircheii'-r Referring to your te egram re. a tenth contingent, I cannot express sufficient thank's for the gro-*.r. help given and offered. Thera aio mmo I would sooner have witli mo in the field chan the gallant New Zealanders.”
