The first meeting of the South Canterbury Rifie Association was commenced on Thursday. A number of Waimate competitors took part, and the following were successful on the first day : Independent Vanishing Head and Shoulders Match, 200 yards ; seven shots; any position ; possible score, 14 points. Private J. Goldstone, 155... ... 39 Private Jamieson, lis 3d... ... ... 37 Private Adams, ss~ \. 33 Soth Canterbury Match ; 300 yards, sevon shots; 500 yards, seven shots; twenty prizes—one at £3, one at £2, one at £1 10s. two at £l, seven at 10s, eight at ss; total,-£l4. In this match time could only be found to finish the 300 yardß and mike a' start at the 500 yards. In the latter only about fifteen men were

able to shoot, aa heavy rain brought matters to'an abrupt dose. At this range Trooper Lindsay made 22, Corporal W, Lindsay 28, Private Dash 28, Privates Bennington and Goldstoae and Trooper Maindonald 2G, Qwu'teravtster-Sergeant Wain 25. There were 110 competitors at this range.
