Waimate Borough Council.
The usual monthly meeting was held last evening; present —His Worship the Mayor (Mr John Manchester), iu the chair, and Urs. OoGmah, Inkster, Cameron, Nicol, Jones, Freeman and Sinclair.
An apology was received frum Cr Barclay. Tho minutes of tho last ordinary and special meetings were read and confirmed.
CORRESPONDENCE. Mrs Emma Petit and Mrs Emma lane Wilco asked permission to use a right of way to their joins piope ty iu Qacou street. The requests were granted. The Musgiel Borough Council asked for particulars as to the effect of rating on unimproved valaea in Wamiate, and whether it paid tho borough. Decided to reply that the Council is not yet sufficiently acquainted with the system to give those details. The application of Met-s s T. H. Mann and A. S. Jones to erect scaffolding in front of their prop .s. d new buildings in Queen street wer.) granted if same he erected to the satisfaction of the borough’s inspector.^ Subject to the usual conditions, transfers of borough La.-oi won* granted from J. Mooro to A Hama of Lot No. 1 (5a 3r 1 23 p); Lot Ho. 2 (8a 2r 39p) from A. Harris' to A. (Jordner ; drainage, dry earth, and manure reserve from A, Horris to J. W. Freeman; Lob No. 3 (9a ‘2r> and Block 1 (2a 2r), Victoria Tesfracs, from S. Binnoy to B. Flynn. Mr G. H. Graham, secretary of the Waimate High School Board, wrote that the Rev. George Barclay, who represented the Council, retired by effluxion of time. ,

It was stated that Hiorns bad now been a year in the Council’s employ—the terra for which trial had to be made. , It was decided that Hiorns had given satisfaction, and that his contract still go on at 9s per day for himself with horse and dray. Or. Colt man the work might have cost a little more, but it had beon well done lhe had also dona work never Attempted before by the borough. Or. Inkster thought that a man at 9s per day should not go on breaking a few stques as 'he was doing' at present; could get it done cheaper. The shingle also was brought up with at least 60 per cent of sand ; this blow all over the place. It should be screened.

The caretaker of Victpria Park a“ked that ths hedge be cob and chat a couple of loads of gravel be carted for the Park footpath. Gravel to bo supplied, hedge to be cut later.
Mr J. -Watt, Balclulha, wrote accepting the draft of deed as nov amended.
Mr W. M. Hamilton, Borough solicitor, sent tho deed for signature by the Council, , A resolution was passed that the deed be approved, and it wan sealed and signed by His Worship tho M-.iyoi and Urn. Cullman and Nicul, in accordance with a resolution pass-d ar last meeting. His-Worship said that he thought it it could bo done it Would Do a good thing to hold ’their meetings on Tuueday evening*. This would ensure better reports in the papers, for the reporters could not bo expected to give full reports after meetings extending nli 11 o’clock.
It was pointed but that, this could only be clone at the beginning of each year. Tne Clerk was authorised to sue for outstanding rates and rents if necessary. It was decided to enforce the 10 pc-r coot penalty in the case of a ratepayer who had offered to pay on Satin day night at 8 o’clock, this being the last day without penalty. Accounts amounting to £4O 14s 4d were passed for payment.
Domain board
The Gounc 1 sat as a Domain Board after the usual meeting. The caretaker’s report was read and approved. Accounts amounting to £4 3s 4d worn passed and iho meeting ended at 9.45.
