Trotting at Auctions.
At the meeting of the omnaittee of the Timaru Agricultural and pAgtoral Association on Saturday the following circular from the Secretary for Agricul ture, Mr Ritchie, was read :—" By order of the House of Representatives the evidence taken by the Joint Agricultural, Pastoral aud Stock Committee last session on tho Land and Live Stock Auctioneers Bill, together with a copy of the Bill, is being forwarded to all agricultural societies, I enclose copies of the Bill and evidence and am directod to request than you will be good enough to let ms have the opinion of youn> society thereon."
The Bill provides that the auctioneer shall name the vendor' and the laet bidder ; that the vendor is not to bid or to employ an agent to do so ; provided that the latter prohibition shall not apply to any case where the auctioneer announces that the vendor reserves the right to one bid, and such one bid is made accordingly, and the auctioneer announces that the bid is made by or on behalf of the vendor. The penalty for breach of the Kit is not exceeding ten pyunda, and if tho auctioneer is in fault on a second ofience his license may be forfeited.
