Ancient Order of Foresters.
The annual meeting of the South Canterbury District A.O.F. was held at the Foresters' Hall, Waimate, on Friday last, the 10th instant, at 7.30 p.m., Bro W. Miller, D.C.R., presiding. There were present Bro E. J. Atwill, S.D.C.R.; Bro Grant, D. 8., treasurer ; Bros Burford and Harris (secretary). Credentials were presented by Bros Mcßride, and Burford, Court 3123 ; Bros Adams and Brown, Court 6073; and Bro 3 Walton and Hopkins, Court 6732, There were also present a large number of members of Courts 6073 and 3123.
Correspondence in and out was read and received. Among the inward wers circulars from North Queensland and Hawko's Bay re subsidiary high courts. The annual report and 'balancesheet were read by the secretary, the auditor being unavoidably absent. The report congratulated the brethren on the result of the year's operations, the calls on the funeral fund being very light, only £52 having been ' paid during the year. The funeral fund had increased by £6l) 2s 2d and the management fund by £24 lGs 7d, a total increase of the funds of £93 18s 9d.
On' the motion of delegates Brown and Adams, the report and balance-sheet were unanimously adopted. On the motion of delegates Burford and Hopkins it was deoidod to hand £6O from current, account to the trustees for investment.
Re circular from Queensland relating to subsidiary high court, it was moved by delegates Brown and Mcßride—" That, seeing we are so far away from Australia, and the expenses of delegates to attend meetings would be so heavy, under present circumstances tho district cannot see its way to support the proposal." —Carried. Re circular from Hawke's Bay respecting a subsidiary high court for New Zealand, it was decided, on the motion of delegates Mcßride and Brown—" That this district considers the question of subsidiary high court premature at present, but would fall in with a proposal for a conference to be held periodically in different parts of the colony.' I —Carried. A notice of motion was tabled by Bro Adams for consideration at next meeting—" That the delegates get the opinion of tho various courts on the question of clearance mombeis, to ascertain if they are willing to accept members from other courts without clearance fees _or increase in contributions, providing the court or district from which the member comes is willing to accept any of tho members from courts in this district on the same terui3."
The oloction of officers was then proceeded with, and resulted a'a follows for the ensuing twelve months, the meetings to be held at St. Andrews:—For the office of D.0.R., Bro Walton; S.D.C.R., Bro Traves; D. 0., Bro Dix ; auditors. Bros Yogeler and Pratt (re-elected). The D.O.R. installedhis successor, who took the chair, and in a neat speech thanked the brethren for the honour the} bad conferred on him. The remaining officers will be duly installed at the next meeting. On the motion of Bros Hopkins and Brown, the - D.O.R. Bro Walton, secretary Bro Harris; and treasurer Bro Burford were authorised _to sign cheques for the ensuing term.
Delegates Bros Brown and Mcßrido proposed—" That the retiring D.O.R. be presented with a P.D.O.R. certificate and neck ribbon." —Carried with acclamation, Bro Miller having carried out the duties in a very able and efficient manner during his term of office. .
Tho presentation was duly made by the D.0.R., and P.D.C.R. Bro Miller suitably replied, and moved a vote of thanks to officers for thait kind I assistance to him during his term.-f CftMed with applause. 1; Accounts to the amount of £l3 153 Id were passed for payment, and the meeting was duly closed by the D.C.R.
The visitors wore then entertained for a couple of hours by the local Court, Bro Miller attending to the refreshments with his usual ability. Songs and recitations were contributed by visitors and members of Court Foresters' Pride, and the visiting brethren departed en route for Timam at 12 midnight, having participated in an exceedingly enjoyable evening.
