Mr Maxwell's application would be looked into when Pringle's road was being surveyed. Hakatavamoa.—Therein in the early p rt of the month caused slips it} the Cliff road, and the recent rains would likely have done still further damage. Taking into consideration the uostabla condition of the ground and the very defective location of the road, the Council later on would be asked to con* sider the expediency of abandoning the j route and substituting the Somewhat/ expensive alternative of abridge overthd Waitaki. When time could be spared for properly investigating the circumstances, the Engineer stated that he would report fully on the Various aspects of the case. In the meantime negotiations were in progress regarding the coat of various' desigflf? of iron bridges from English firms, which be imported cheaper than building a vooden one. The Council's team would be in this riding till the end of the month.
