The first meeting of the Waihao sports passed oft very successfully, considering the wet weather on Monday, several hundreds of people having arrived on the grounds before the rain started. Major Steward, M.H.R., was on the grounds all day/. ; Good entries were received for all events, and several close finishes proclaiming the quality of the handicapping. Messrs Mann and Symon hud publican's and confectioner's booths on the, grounds, and seemed to fee doinga good trade. The weather- ciearedftowards evening, arid a large attendance resulted at the ball, dancing being kept up till 4o'clock, everybody going home well satisfied.
