Waimate Horticultural Society.

.■ —■ ■»' A committee meeting was held last evening, present—The Rev. McKenzie - Gibson (chair), and Messrs Scott, J, H. Dean, F.

Akburst, E. Reilly, Hargreaves, Howard, W. Taylor, C- A. Wilson, J. W. Manchester and Shackleton. The minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. The sub - committee reported that Missas Evans and Dailey had consented to take charge of the refreshments.

The site of the refreshment tent was discussed and fixed, and Mr Atwill wasappointed to superintend the erection of the marquee .and fittings. Mr Knowles, of Timaru, wrote offering a prize consisting of twelve roses or twelve carnations, and it was decided to divide the prize and award it for most point.in cut flowers for gardeners am 1 foa amateurs.

It was decided to award Messrs Reilly and H. E. Mann’s prize foi the «best garden kept at a public school by a child attending thai school after the show, entries to be received up to January 9. the president (Rev. McKenzie Gibson) to judge entries. Mrs J. Manchester consented to act as judge of sewing ami enclosed *1 donation to the society. It was decided to ask the Mayor, Mr J. Manchester, to formally open the show. It was also decided to try and engage the services of the band on the same terms as last year. It was mentioned that Miss Clarke, who had done good work for the society, was about to be married, and a committee consisting of the president and secretary and Mr Dean were appointed to select a present as an appreciation of Miss Clarke’s valuable services.
