The Farmers Union.

Cheistchckch, November 10. - At a meeting of the executive of the North Canterbury Branch of the Farmers’ Union, held here yesterday, when the official report of proceedings at the Ashburton Conference was under discussion, it was moved by Mr Whiter and seconded by Mr fl. F. Reece, that the words in the report. “It was unanimousiy decided that in future all rebates should be abolished” should be excised. Mrß. Reid moved and Mr Gardner seconded an amendment that words on page 11 “ that it was unanimously, decided that in future all rebates should be abolished” should read “It was decided by a majority that in future all rebates should either be abolisbsd or made general.” The amendment was carried. In regard to insurance against accident it was decided ta request the colonial executive to ascertain earliest possible date what are the b°at insurance terms obtainable; then place the matter with recommendations before tde various provincial executives with a view to some immediate action ; also that the offer received by the executive be sealed and remitted to the colonial executive]; that the insurance should cover all agricultural labour for which an employer is liable ‘under all existing Acts.

The secretary was instruc'ed to write to the Minister of Railways setting forth that a reduction ot freight on wool is urge itly needed, as the price is very low. [ A letter from the ; East Melton Branch enclosing a motion strongly recommend* ing the Union to consider the question o establishing cool stores in South Africa so that a market for New Zealand meat, poultry, potatoes, etc., might be established there, and also that the Government be urged to assist in finding a market there, was referred to the Premier.
