The Prince of Wales.

The Duke of Coirnwhll and York has been created Prince of Wales. Since the institution of the title by Edward'l. the Sovereign’s firstborn has been invariably “created ” Prince of Wales. As there is no succession of Prince of Wales, the title at every vacancy becomes merged in ihe -Crown, and is only renewed by the Sovereign’s pleasure, as in the present instance. v Certain formalities are observed in the ceremony of creating a Prince of Wales. He is presented before the King in his surcoat, cloak, and mantle of crimson velvet. The King puts into his hand a “verge” of gold—the emblem of government—and & ring of gold on his middle finger to intimate that be must be a husband to his country and a father to bis children. He is also granted letters patent to hold the principality “to him and his heirs, King of England,” by which words the separation of this principality is for ever prohibited. A gold coronet is placed on his head at the ceremony.
