Our Volunteers.
A team of the Waimate Rifles to shoot in Christchurch aguiodt the City Riflns ou Nov. 8, will be picked from the following : Lieuts. Hurst and Jackson, Col.Sergt. Stevenßon, Sergts. J. and R. Smith and Mine 3, Corps. Colletfc and Porter, Lnc.-Corp. C. M. . Wilson, G. Nicol and Thomas, and Privs. Bennington, Dash, Wilce, Williams and Inkster. Last evening, in the dtillshed, Capt. Barclay gave the first of a series of weekly lectures on fields work. There was a good number present and a great deal of interest was displayed. On Wednesday night Colonel Moore held an inspection parade of the Waimate Rifles, the company being put through the new attack formations now being user! in South Africa. At the conclusion of the parade Col. Moore announced to the corps that Capt. Barclay had passed the examination for his commission at the School of instruction, Wellington, knd that he received special mention on. the whole examination and./-'distinguished/* in elementary taciics, to£6graphy duties and fortifications.
