Sir Hector Macdonald at Studholme.

A very number of people, journeyed to Studuolme yesterday, by every means of locomotion, to see Sir Hector Macdonatdy one of Britan/B most futnoua Generals, paes through on his way no.ib.

At an emergency meeting of fie Caledonian Society on Saturday night Messrs Mathias Dailey {vice - president), K. McLennan and Rupert Cameron were appointed to represent the society in journeying to Oamaru and extending their best wishes to tire famous representative of Scotland. Mr J. Dunn was asked to arrange for light refreshments being laid in the waiting room, and to ask the stationmaster to try and arrange for the express to be delayed five minutes. All these details were carried out. "When the train arrived the leal Society representatives escorted the distinguished visitor to the waitingroom, where the healths of "The King" and "Sir Hector Macdonald " were duly honoured, Mr Mathias, on behalf of the society, welcoming Sir Hector to their district. The General briefly replied. He was then introduced to all in the room, shaking hands with each. leaving the room, a " cameru frond " ordered a halt, and he probably secured a flue group. Sir Hector then boarded the trainband, amid vociferous cheering, it moved out from the platform. Sergeant Major McPheron and three pipers of the newly formed Oamaru Pipe Band, who had journed with the General's party and were the guests of the Waimate Caledonian Society between the trains.
