A' passing steamer stoodiby, and when the gale moderated. somewhat, hawsers were twice got aboard, but broke, and the attempt to tow the disabled steamer had to be given up. After three days in the gale, the City of Lincoln's engineers managed to disconneot the broken engines, and fitted machinery which enabled her to steam to this port. The vessel presented an extraordinary ippaaranoe, the decks being piled with iead and dying horses, and altogetht r ib ;ut 200 were lost.
