Amongst the forerunners of Christmas, one of the most interesting is always the splendid edition pifWished by the Weekly Press. Ever attractive, additional interest is given by the special pictures of Maori dances and of the Hot Lakes district, both subjects which were prominently before the public daring the Royal visit. As awakened interest has been taken, both in the colony and abroad, in all things pertaining to New Zealand, pictures have been selected to represent both its beauty spots and the industries of the native race. According to ancient Maori lore, the North Island of New Zealand wa9 hauled up from the bottom of the sea by the god Maui, and among the illustratibns is a reproduction of a eiab picturing the subject, carved by a Maori artist. The whole % number is bound in a handsomely designed cover, the frontispiece being a very beautiful Maori maiden, who will make a" charming companion picture to " The Pikau " given last year. The supplement, " The Harvest," is a -charming subject, which will be very popular. The reading matter is by well known writers, and the. work is printed in the most up-to-date style. The paper is an'excellent epitome of New -Zealand's features of interest, ■and will enable those at Home to form a thoroughly correct idea of this Britain of the Sou'th.
