WeDNBSDaV. iioi'O'SßK 15. Before the Rev. G. Barclay and Mr W. Pettit, J.'sP. RIDING ON FOOTPATHS. Daniel Goodman, Samuel Searle and L. Loach were each charged with "riding a bicycle on the footpath in High, Queen and Shearman streets respectively. Ajine of 5s and 7a costs was inflicted in each case. The Bench remarked that this was a very dangerous practice and must be stopped. LOITERING ON FOOTPATH. J. S. Peck, who did not appear, was charged with loitering on the footpath in Eueen street on Saturday night. Constable Christie said it was becoming a common practice for young mon and girls to loiter on the footpaths, thus obstructing the traffic. When asked to move on they did so, but immediately resumed their former position. He intended to bring up further tjases that occutred before the ! court, and he asked the cooperation i of the court in putting a stop to the nuisance. The girls were even worse than the boys. The Bench expressed regret that such complaints should be made about a small place like Waimate. When there were so many clergymen in the place it was a pity that they had not more influence with the young people, so as to dissuade them from these practices. The accused would be fined ss, with costs, 7s. Any future offenders will be severely dealt with.
