The Maiden Melodists.

On Friday evening next in the Oddfellows’ Hall, the Maiden Melodists, one of three companies touring New Zealand in the interests of the fSalvatioa Army’s Self Denial fund, will give an entertainment. They are said to be well worth seeing.

•The Dunedin Star says :—“ The combination of seven of the Salvation Army’s - girl’s, known as the Maiden Melodists, held another meeting in the Army’s barracks. There was a good attrn lance. The distinctive feature of the entertainment provided by the Melodists appears to be their drills, which are very cleverly done, and show careful thought on the part of the organisers. They are in some respects departures from the ordinary drills, consisting as they do of ball, military lance, ind wand drills, while a complete departure from the orthodox was made in the case of the statuesque drills, where the young maidens, attired in the flowing robes of Greece, posed themselves to repiesent, in one set, Scorn, Reflection, Conviction, Repentance, and Joy, and in another,® Listening, Alarm and Flight. These drills were particularly appreciated. Miss Melville’s exhibition of club swinging was highly appreciated, and was regarded as one of the best items of the evening, while Miss Coventry’s selection on the violin was accorded the pride of place as far as instrumentation went. The piano duet by Misses Bath and Coventry was warmly approved, and other minor items were listened to with interest.”
