Temperance Reform Union.
A public meeting was held in the Temperance Ball onThursday even in^. There was a good attendance, and Mr T. Brown occupied the chair.. _ As announced, the Bev. J. Blight delivered a- lecture on John B. Gough. The first part of the. lecture: was- an . interesting sketch of the great orator’s life and, work.
The second part consisted of the reciting of a number of extracts from Gough's speeches. Mr Blight connected the extracts by remarks bringing out the points illustrated. Evidently the audience enjoyed the lecture, the applause being both frequent and hearty. At Mr Blleht’s request, the formal vote of thanks was omitted but the Rev. A. S. Morrison, before pronouncing the benediction, expressed the pleasure which must have been experienced by all present. During the evening the Temperance Choir, under Mr 0. Manchester, rendered several melodies, and Mrs Dailley presided at the organ.
