Cricket.
Victoria Park was the scene of great activity on Thursday afternoon, the occasion being the opening of the cricket season by the Waiiuate club. Sides were chosen on the ground, representing the Captain and Vice-Captain, the former proving victorious by 14 runs. Some of the members showed good all round form and a few of the “youngsters” gave promise of better things shortly. The Committee take this opportunity of thanking the lady friends of the club for their kindness in providing and dispensing afternoon tea. The following are the scores :
Total 63 Goldstone, Stewart, Fisher and Hayes bowled well for their respective sides. A practice be held this evening, and next Thursday last year’s first eleven will try conclusions with the rest of the club.
