WAXMtIE, THURSDAY, OCTOBER 10. (Before Mr J. Keddell S.M.) affiliation. A young man from Timaru was charged with disobeying an order by the Court to pay 7s a week for the maintenance of an illegitimate child and pleaded guilty. His Worship' said that A surety had been given for the money, and until the surety was all expended they could not proefeed against defendant. , . Mr Hamilton, who appeared lot plaintiff, held that this was not so, as the magistrate bad power to proceed at any time, - , . . . His Worship reserved his deeisior Wthig point until next court day.'

TRESPASS. A. Brown was charged by the County ranger with allowing three horses to wander on the road at Waihao on October 8. Defendant stated that the horses were being driven to water .at a water-race over the road — and were not wandering. Mr Hamilton appeared for the County Council. E. George, County Ranger, gave evidence that he had found the three horses on the road without anyone being in charge. He started to drive them and a woman came out of defendant’s house and claimed the horses. He gave them lip on payment of Is driving fee. Defendant had no defence except that the horses were not left more than five minutes. A fine of 6a was imposed with costs 7s—solicitors fee, £1 Is. W. Rattray pleaded guilty to allowing four head of cattle to wander on. the road. The cows had been taken by the ranger to Wairnate. They were not milked for two days. His Worship said the circumstances were hard, but he imposed a fine of 6s, Court costs 7s, and solicitor’s fee 10s 6ch CIVIL CASKS. R. Brain v. D. Scott, claim £2 3s sd. There was no appearance of defendant, and judgment was given for the amount claimed with costs 6s. Priest and Holdgate v. W. Harper, claim 17a. Defendant did not appear and Mr Atwill appeared for plaintiffs. Judgment was given for the amount claimed with costs. 6s.
