British and Foreign Bible Society.
On Monday evening the Rev. F. Spencer, agent in New Zealand of the British and Foreign-rßibie Society, delivered a lecture under the auspices of the Waimate branch in Knox Church hall. L’he Rev. George Barclay occupied .he chair, and in his opening •emarks referral to tha great work lone by the society, part of which yas the distribution in all lauds of he Scriptures, translated into no fewer than 350 languages. Mr G. H. Graham, branch secretary, read the report for the year. This showed that the collectors (Mrs Studholme, Missss Smith, Clayton, Freeman and Williams) paid in £ls 18s Bd, and the fund, with] £2 9s 8d balance from last year, now amounted to £lB 8s 4d. Of this £ll had been forwarded as a Contribution to the parent society, and after paying 13s 4d incidental expenses of the year, the oalance would be forwarded to the same source. The sales of books by the agent had decreased somewhat. Mr Spencer gave an interesting address on the society, giving excellent limelight illustrations. Tha lecturer was awarded a very hearty vote of thanks for his address.
