A. and P. Association.
A committee meeting of the Waimate A. and P. Association was held yesterday afternoon, the president, Mr H. Hertslett, presiding. The following judges were drawn :—Draught horses, Messrs Jas- Duthie (Dunedin) and R. Lochhead (Lincoln). Light horses, Messrs W. H. Taggart (Dunedin) and J. Parke (Timaru,). Sheep, Messrs F. Wright (Dunedin) and C. Reid (Oamaru). Cattle, Hon. T. Y. Duncan (Oamaru) and Mr H. Geaney (Timaru). Dairy Produce, etc., Messrs W. Bee and R. Bowie (Timaru). Pigs, Messrs C. Bourne (Timaru) and A. Grant (Oamaru). The prizes for sheep and cattle were'raised to £1 for first and 10s for second, and the prizes in the new classes were fixed. A letter was received from the Traders' 5 Association, stating that ,: permission bad been granted to members to subscribe to the special prize fund. The President, the Vice-president and Mr 3, W. Freeman were appointed a committee to canvass non-members of the Traders’ Association for subscriptions. The tender of the Waimate Advertiser for the Association’s printing was accepted. The annual horse parade was fixed for Saturday, October sth. The President and Mr J. H. Mitchell were authorised to have the fences round the Show ground renewed.
Offers of special prizes were received : From Mr W. Guildford, of a cup valued at £5 6s, for the best yearling colt or filly by Lincoln Tom ; from the President and Mr Mitchell of £1 Is, for the jumping competition. Mr W. M. Hynam was elected a member of the Association, and the meeting ended.
As some misconceptifn. exists as to the attitude of the Waimate A. and P. Association in regard to the importing of one of the Government stallions to this district, we publish the foil text of the letter sent by the president to the Waimate Horse Owners’ Association Members, Waimate Horse Owners’ Association, Dear Sirs,—We are very sorry to hear that a misunderstanding has arisen with reference to the resolution curiel by the Association re asking the Government to stand one of their horses here. It was not the intention of our Society to in any way interfere with the business of the horse owners of this county, for it is oar opinion that this district is well supplied with suitable horses, the equal of which are not as a whole to be excelled In the Province. We shall be glad if you will give whst publicity you can 'to this letter as we are anxious
