Masonic Bail.
The long-talked-of Masonic Ball, "andec the auspices of Lodge Sfc. Augustine, No. 99, N.Z.C., eventuated on Thursday evehing in the Oddfellows’ Hall, and was one of £he most enjoyable dances of the season. The hall was carefully decorated with flags, festoons and evergreens, interspered with transparencies showing various emblems of the Craft, and presented a gay appearance, the effect of which was enhanced by the regalia of members and the dresses of the ladies- Following such an unusual number of dances, and with influenza prevalent, it was felt that the gathering could not be large, and it. was therefore a pleasant surprise to see fifty couples present. Besides a good representation of the local Lodge, those of Timaru and Oamaru were represented. Shortly after 6.30, the Grand March was led off by Bro. A. Philip, W.M., and Mrs Philip, to excellent music provided by Miss A. Gaitt (piano), and Messrs A. Millar (violin) and Barwood (cornet). Thanks to the exertions of the committee-daring the afternoon the floor was perfect, and dancing was, as one lady aptly put it, “a dream of delight.” Bros. W. J. yfalla. and <£ Dash gave every Satisfaction as M’s.C, Sapper was spread in marquees la the grounds at the side of the hall/being reashed by a covered
way from the side door. The caterer, Bro. J. Symon, and his staff were as indefatigable as ever intheir efforts' ’to provide creature" comforts, and these were fully appreciated. Thanks are due to Messrs Priest and Holdgate, A.' Jones and Co., H. Middleton, C. Wederell and other friends for the us 3 of various articles for decorative purposes, and for furnishing the stage.
