LABOUR LEGISLATION AND SHOP HANDS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—Allow me space in your valuable paper to refer to the injustice done the employes* in country stores and shops as compared with those ia the town. We hare no half-holiday, and are working almost every day till nearly eight o'clock wt night. It is simply because our employers want to sella bit of tobacco or a box of Wiatches ,moro than the other man, and all they sell doesn’t pay for oil. In this the farmers are mostly to bL-me, for if they got their goods at reasonable hours, as they could do, and didn’t come last thing at night, there would be no inducement to keep open, and we would benefit. Besides, blacksmiths and others who don’t work at night don’t pet a half-holiday, and there ought to be some reason for this. Hoping you will find space tot this, —I am, etc., Country Employee.
