School Committee.
The monthly meeting of the School Committee was held last evening, there being present Messrs W. M. Hamilton (chair), W. L. Scott (secretary), W. Miller, A. Colville, G. S. Mathias, C. Jackson. Messrs Nicol and Cameron sent apologies. The headmaster wrote that ho was down with influenza and could not write a report, but nothing particular had occurred during the month.
The Truant Officer sent a list of oases dealt with up to August 81st. Misa Roberts, of Christchurch, wrote asking the Committee to allow some temperance wall sheets to be hung on the walla of the school. The lady also aoked leave to address the elder pupils of the school on the principled of temperance.
Both requests were agreed to. Accounts amounting to £% lßa 9d were passed. Mr Hamilton, for the visitors, reported everything satisfactory, except a hole in the porch floor. The back was burnt out of the High School fire place. One of the clocks required attention. It was resolved to attend to the various matters.
A long discussion took place on the question of opening the bottom of the windows, and on tha motion of Messrs Mathias and Colville, it was decided to instruct the teachers that the bottom of the windows should be open only when the children ware out. Messrs Mathias and Miller were appointed visitors for the month, and the meeting ended.
