THE PRICE OF BREAD.

TO THB EDITOR. Sia, —I think the local bakers gave ft most paltry reason for raising the price of bread to 6d. If flour had risen we would all have excused them, bub fancy 6d for bread with wheat at 2s 6d. I have been told that from a of flour a baker gotf 700 loaves, which,Vt6d, gives him £l7 10s. Paying about £6 for his floor, he has the small sum of £llloa to bake and deliver the bread. Could he fail to make a pretty fair profit out of that ? Only two courses are open to consumers of bread: either our wives bake their own, or we start a co-operative bakery. The co-operative store would confer a boon on Waimate if they added a bakery busiiess to their present one.— II gnl, etc., Anxious Parent.
