Levels and Waimate Counties.
At the County Council meeting on Wednesday a letter was road from the lion. W. J. Steward stating that ho had been asked to introduce tho Bill providing for the separation of the two Pareota Hidings from the Waimate County. Ho wished to know the attitude of the Council towards tho Bill. Mr Walker said thej could have no objection to Lower Pareora going over as there wees a majority in favour of it. The Upper Paceora however showed a majority in favour of remaining as they ware.
Mr Hardia said they should not object to the Hidings going over i£ the Otaio Eiver is the boundary. He thought this was a good time to revjve the question of tho Hospital district. Mr Walker objected to the Upper Pareora Riding being out off from Waimate County against their wish.
Mr Lyall aaid most of those objecting wished to join Mount Cook County. The Levels County were willing to let them do this.
It was moved by Messrs Lyall and Rosa that the Hon. W. J. Steward be written to that the Waimate County had no objection to make provided the Levels Council support a proposal to make the Otaio River the Waimate Hospital district boundary. Mr Studholmo objected on tho ground that they had no reliable information on the subject. They could make no recommendation in the face of the small amount of information available.
The motion on being put was lost, Messrs Lyali, Hardio and Boas, voting for it. On the motion of Messrs Walker and Studholmo, it was decided to inform Mr Steward, that the Council had no objection to Lower Pareora going over, but they objected to Upper Paraora being cut off from this County, aa many of the ratepayers objected to being transferred to the Levels County.
