Social.
On Tuesday evening, the employees on the Centrewood Estate organised a social evening and dance to which they invited a number of their friends. The function took place in the large shed near Mr Frank Lundon's house, and no pains were spared to make the building attractive. Advantage had been taken of the near proximity of fern to completely cover the walls and rafters with the fronds, thus securing a very pretty effect. Before declaring the dance open, Mr J. W. Hayes welcomed the guests on behalf of the Estate, and hoped all would thoroughly enjoy thernfeives. The Grand March was then led off by Mr Frank Lundon and Miss Hayei-, followed by Mr J. W. Hayes and Miss Mabel Hayes. Messrs H. Saunders (accordeon) and H. Wilson (violin) provided excellent music, and with a good floor an hour or two was passed very pleasantly. After an interval, during which a good supply of refreshments was handed round, Mr T. Ho Ham by, on behalf of the employees, called for three cheers for Mrs Hajes and family for their kind assistance towards the successful evening's enjoyment. Mr W. Lundon, in a few well-chosen words, endorsed the remarks of the previous speaker, and said that iu these days of somewhat strained relations between master and employee, the cordiality existing at Centrewood was very gratifying, and he hoped it would long con-, tinue. The cheers were enthusiastically given, and three were added for Mr Frank Lundon, the popular manager of the Estate. Mr J. W. Hayes suitably responded. Dancing was then resumed, and kept up till well on in the morning, everyone having thoroughly enjoyed thornselves. Songs and recitations were given, at intervals by members of fc he company.
