Parliamentary.
FARMERS’ AND WORKERS* COMPENSATION. In the House on Wednesday Mr Seddon combatted the statement that the Compensation for Accidents Act applied to the farmers. Hon. members had said that ,tbe Act applied to the farmers. (Hear, hear.) He said that it did not apply. . Mr G. W. Russell-—Well* why should it not apply ? Mr Massey—The law says differently. A. . Mr Seddon—Well, I am telling you what my opinion is but we have the Courts of law, and it will be quite time enough when any Court of law decides that this Act does apply to the farmers for the House to set about altering it, and make It consistent with what we
intend. In the meantime, we must stand by the law until we have such an interpretation. Mr Flatman—- Make it plain before some one is ruined.
Mr Seddon—l say it is Clear at the present time, and the present Act is safer, better, and more economical for the farmers than the Employers’ Liability Act was.
