Wellington, July 30. A deputation’; representing the Marl* borough Railway and Land League waited upon the Right Hon. R. J. Seddoh's Sir J. G. Ward, Hon. W. Hall-Jcuel and Hon. T. Y. Duncan to-night to urge the prosecution of the Blenheim 1 Waipara line and the necessity for closer settle- * ment of the land.. 1c was recognised that the line could not be pushed on while ths Flaxbotrne estate was locked up,'and the deputation asked that the Government would take prompt steps to acquire the estate and so facilitate the construction of the line. Mr Seddon, in replying, said an answe; to the depu'at-ion could not bo given offhand/ To take possession of such a large estate as Flaxbourne opened tu» a large question of finance. They mustconsider’’what trasto be the limit of the 1 expenditi/e..at bori-oVed,. money; For public .works already- wafe required ; for line £500,000; and a like amount, for land With that expenditure ,ii view it was just about time .that, the position was iairly faced.
