Workers’ Union.
At the regular meeting of the Waimate branch of the New Zealand Workers’ Union on Saturday evening the rules of the society ware considered, and after several wore adopted. Correspondence from the president of the Wellington branch was received, and a vote of thanks to Mr O’Brien for the interest he bad itakon in the Waimate branch fee >rd,d on the minutes.
Mc Mills, a member of the committee, having intimated he was about to leave the colony, Mr Pearce, the President, said Mr Mills had bean an energetic member of the committee since the : uuion was formed, courteous in his remarks, and at the same time incisive and convincing in his arguments. He would move that the thanks of the union be tentiered to Mr Mills for the able and useful assistance he had rendered the branch. The secretary seconded the motion, which was carried amidst applause. Mr Mills said, in reply, that 'much as be would like to stay in fh-a land of Dick Seddon, he would be serving his best interests by froiug to the “ other side ” for the shearing. He would have liked to pat the winter in in New Zealand, f.nd would have done so had he b enable. Ha would be back in New Zealand in a few months, whan he trusted the union would be in good working order. He thanked the members for the ■motion just passed, and would wish all “ Good. b e.”
