The Coronation.

London, July 9. The House ot Loris discussed the question of t!ie King’s Declaration oath. The debate was desultory, Lord Salisbury announcing that he proposed to bring in a bill to deal with the subject. The King’s Titles Rill and the King’s Declaration Bill will not be submitted this session unless unopposed and possibly eventually associated. Ddnkdin, July 10. A largely 'attended public meeting o Protestants was held in the Choral H .11 to-night.

The Rev. J. Gibb moved—That "this meeting protests against any a.teration be ngVn.ade in the forrh of the coronation oath, and'.lec'aiatiou of Sovereigns of Great Britain on the'grounds that by the Act of Settlement it is decreed that the Sovereign of these realms shall be of the PfOtestant faith, that the aggressive claims and "attitude of the Romann Catholic Church are such that it i 9 necessary there shull be no relaxation of the safeguards which ensure the contfn nance of the Protestant succession, that as the Roman Catholic doctrine of mental reservation permits oaths to be t>iken in other th&u their generally acoep ed meaning,, it is incumbent on the Sovereign to make his declaration in terms that are not capable of being taken in other than their ordinary, and obvious meaning, and to declare his adhesion t*> the Protestant faith in terms that cannot be misunderstood.”

The resolution was seconded by the Rev. Brook (Wesleyan) and carried enthusiastically as also was the following pioposcd by Mr 0. Watt, aid seconded by the B*v. Wilson—That this meeting recognising the gravity of the present crids emphatically protes : s against any modification of the coronation oath withoat a plcjlid'-icite of the electors of Australasia being fi’-st "aken and that a copy of this resold i m be forwarded to the Governor.
