Presentation to Dr. Barclay.

A meeting of the committee who had charge of the late banquet to Dr. Barclay, ex-Mayor of Waimate, was held on Thursday evening. The balance-sheet of the banquet was read. Barclay, Esq., M.R.C.S., Eng. ; F.R.0.5., Edin.; Mayor of Waimate from Dec., 1898, to May. 1901. “ Dear Sir, —Your extended term of office as Mayor having expired, we, the undersigned residents of Waimath, desire to present this address in recognition of your valued services and the able manner in which you have discharged your official duties “ During your occupancy of the mayoral chair a number of events have happened in the history of the Empire which have made unusual and special demands upon the time and abilities of all those entrusted with the carrying out of municipal functions. We consider it a matter deserving complimentary notice that, in connection with those occasions, you have met all emergencies and carried out the numerous and onerous duties devolving upon you in a way reflecting credit upon both your ability and patriotism., You have always shown a keen interest in and have never hesitated to devote both your time and energies to the attainment of objects calculated to promote the advancement and prosperity of the community. You have also been over ready to render generous and liberal aid to any object deserving assistance and for which your sympathy has Deen sought. The discharge of your general duties has been marked with unremitting energy, and you have cheerfully devoted your time to everything requiring your attention, and have carried out the duties appertaining to the civic chair in a courteous, obliging and cheerful manner.” It was decided to present the address on Thursday evening next in the Borough Council Chambers, if they could be obtained, the chair-' man of committee -(Mr J. B. Miisom) to make the presentation. Arrangements for speakers and other matters were dealt with, and a vote of thanks to the chair concluded the meeting.
