Michael Broham charged William Clarke with calling him an informer. Neither party was represented by counsel. The statement of complainant was that on Tuesday evening they met at the Junction. Broham said, “ Good day, Mr Clarke.’ Clarke said, “Good day, informer.” Com plninant afterwards went back and asked him if he meant it, and he said “ Yes ; you are a public informer, and I can prove it.” The case arose out of the fact that Biohara told Mr Ford on Sunday that his employee had been giving away his goods. Out of this arose a case of theft, which was tried last Monday, Defendant pleaded guilty to the offence, but said he used the term as a joke. The Bench, in fining the accused 10s and costs, said ho might think his offence a joke, but it was one that rendered him liable to a fine of JGIO.
