STUDHOLME JUNCTION-

(from our own correspondent. )

A meeting of the farmers took place in the school on Friday evening for the purpose of discussing the idea of establishing a creamery at Studholme in connection with the North Otago Central Dairy Factory. Mr Reilly who convened the meeting presided and introduced Messrs Barr and Cagney directors, aftd Mr Gill manager of the North Otago Dairy Factory Company who explained the working of their company and methods followed in the Oamaru eistriot.

Mr Barr ably explained the modem dairy factory system and went into figures to show the advantage of the dairying indnstry and especially so at the present time when the price of grain is so low. He referred to the value of the export of butter and cheese from the province of Taranaki which he said was equal to that of the gold export from the Thames. He held that the factory system tended to give an equal distribution of Wealth among the people and that the industry apart from monetary advantages developed habits of self denial and perseverance ond of patience in waiting for result. He referred to the growing prosperity at Hampdeu, Otepopo and other places where creameries were established. He explained in detail the working of NorthOtago Dairy Factory Company and said ihat they were prepared to take supplies from a radius of seventy miles. They required in all twelve creameries. If 800 shares at £1 each were taken up the company would erect a creamery at once. He explained the manner of payment which was one shilling on application and one on allotment, the balance being paid by deducting one shilling per month from the milk cheques. Messrs Cagney and Gill also made explanatory addresses, and a number of questions were asked. About 145 shares were taken up in the room, aud a committee was appointed with Mr Reilly to canvass the district for shares. Mr Barr in returning thanks said that if the creamery were started it would be due to Mr Reilly, who first moved in the matter.
