Horticultural Society.

The annual inc hing was held last evening, Mr N. Francis presiding over a good attendance of members.

The minutes of the last annual meeting were read and confirmed.

The secretarj (Mr W. L. Scott) read the report of last show on January 11th. The attendance wis somewhat affected by the weather. There were in all 100 exhibitors, an increase of sixteen, and 508 entrh-s, an increase of 168, It was evident that the society was accomplishing its chief object, the promotion of interest in the gardens. The committee suggested separate classes for outside exhibitors of scones. The committee sent an exhibit to Christchurch Jubilee Show, and were awarded first and special prizes. Thanks were doe to the president for taking charge of the exhibit. They were not able to exhibit at Dunedin this year, but hoped to do so next year. Giving to the lack of information forthcoming, they were not able to have a paper on strawberry growing read at the Dunedin Show. The thanks of the Society were due to Misses Hayes and Clarke, who so ably conducte 1 he refreshment stall, tiking £l4 Ss sd. These ladies lad been appointed honorary life members. Thanks were also due to the donors of special prizes. There .vas a credit of £8 Is Gd, the re ceipts being £69 Bs* 9d, and the. ■xpendituie, including prize money £4l 18s, being £66 7s 3d. The balance-sheet and report were adopted. The election of officers resulted as follows : —President, Mr Norton Francis ; vice-presidents, the Rev. McKenzie Gibson and Messrs Nicol, Adams and McGowan ; patronesses, Mesdames Manchester, Studholme and Hayes; patrons, His Worship the Miyor, Hon. Major Steward, R. H. Rhodes and H. E. Mann ; secretary, Mr W. L. Scott; assistant, Mr M. Smith ; treasurer, Mr Dean, committee, Messrs F, Addiurst, Clear, Howard, Smith, London, J. W. Manchester, Reilly, At will, Hertslett, W. Taylor, Shackleton, Hamilton, los. Nind, C. A. Wilson, Hargreaves and H. Saunders. Messrs Mathias and Rouse re-elected auditors and ' a hearty vote of thanks passed them for their work last year. Mr Dean said there were several articles of glassware still left unclaimed from last show. It vas decided to vote an honorarium of £3 3s to Mr Scott, i he secretary. The next show was fixed for January 9ch, 1902. The committee of the Jubilee Show forwarded £4 ssas their prize and it was decided that the President and Mr Dean procure a u able eng a ved cup. The committee then sat.

For revising the schedule the following s ib - committees were appoi: ted : Ga den produce, Messrs «lear, Akhurst, Howard, Dean and Francis; needle and fancy work, Mesdames Baxter, Rouse, Smith j Misses Hayes, Collett, Manchester and Mr Scott. Extra exhibits, Messrs M'Gowan, Nicoh Smith, Mathias and Atwill. Poultry, Messrs Reilly, Lundon, Hertslett, W. Taylor and H. Saunders. The general committee meetings were fixed for the second Monday each month. Messrs Dean and Scott were appointed delegates to Dunedin Winter Shew*
