The Bubonic Plague.
Sydney, May li. Tho latest Eastern files show that there were twenty-four case's of plague and eighteen deaths in Tainan, China, the preceding wt'cdv, and at Manila a torul of thirty-seven .case 3 and twentyfour deaths. There is an opinion in shipping circles that the Board ot Health adopted an extreme course in connection with the Ventura, as vessels from' other infected ports aroallowed to berth and discharge after being fumigdod. ' The captain states that, so far, as he is aware, tnere is no plague in San Francisco. The President of the Board of Health states that the authorities' at San Francisco concealed and. even denied the existence of plague in the city,, notwithstand-' ing the declaration of the quaran-' tine officers to the contrary, and, in answer to a cable, the British cona.nl had stated that the plagne in a sporadic form had been in. existence in San Francisco since March last year.
