■ The north express yesterday bad ah exceedingly narrow escape firrmv b, ing wracked. IF appears that a labourer near Pig Hunting Creek, Norman by, observed that the supports of the railway bridge had 'been 100 iened by the heavy sea which lately prevailed. He immediately procured an old garment and ran along the line to meet the express, which was almost due. Fortunately he was able! to attract the. .driver’s attention, and the train was. pulled up just in time. As it was, the weight of the engine caused some of the bank to falldown. A number 6f /platelayers. *were summoned, and the bridge was so strengthened that the .train was able to pass over in safety, although an hour late. The passengers subscribed £5 7s and presented it to the'man whose presence of mind and ready action prevented the risk of a terrible accident. .
